In 1990, a platformer developed by Nintendo was released for the Super Nintendo System.Super Mario World was the first Super Mario game for the newly released console.Following its successful launch on the Super Nintendo, it would make its way onto the Game Boy Advance, both the Wii and Wii U, the 3DS, and the latest version arriving on the Switch in 2019.

With nine worlds in total tallying 72 levels in total to explore not including the various secret exits leading to hidden locations, you may find yourself lost, without a Yoshi insight and struggling to make your way through each world. 7 Yoshi's Island

A blank screen shadowed by the familiar sound of a coin followed by the words 'Nintendo Presents' and the theme song to Super Mario World beginning to play. The world's most famous plumber begins to dash his way through the level. Clicking start begins a staring contest with the collection of mountains surrounding Luigi's brother. Yoshi's home lays the foundation for what is waiting.

The opening world introduces the player to the various mechanics including swimming, soaring through the air as Yoshi falls to its death and each of the power-ups. Yoshi's Island acts as a tutorial for the player andhas four core levels to discover, plus the first of seven castles. With the Yellow Switch Palace gifting you dozens of coins and a button activating all of the yellow hidden blocks in the game. You can visit Yoshi's House with tons of berries for Yoshi to feast on while you rest at the nearby fireplace.

6 Donut Plains

The second world located above Yoshi's Island Includes eleven locations to visit in total. Four Donut Plains levels, the debut of Boo and the Ghost House, a Green Switch Palace, four secret areas to explore, and of course, the second castle occupied by Morton.One of the new abilities the brothers discover while making their way throughout the Plains is the feather. Allowing the player to fly high above the enemies below, and find several hidden areas in the sky.

The difficulty level is slightly raised from the first world, however it isn't too challenging minus a few volcano plants. The second Donut Plains level takes place deep inside a cave forcing you to constantly move forward or risk being pushed straight into a falling rock or mysterious underground bird and is the peak of the difficulty level in world two.

5 Twin Bridges

This sky-based world has just five levels to explore, plus a castle guarded by a fire breathing Koopa named Ludwig. Within the first few moments of the opening level Butter Bridge 1, you must think fast as you're constantly being chased by the edge of the screen and must hop over miniature platforms which quickly lower once you land on top.

With the second Butter Bridge level and the Cheese Bridge area mirroring a similar theme, you'll discover Soda Lake. An underwater level jammed with torpedos and Cookie Mountain which will have you dancing over an immense amount of moles. Leading to your fourth battle within a castle which includes a close-quartered passageway, one massive room in which your only enemy is the ceiling and the final room prior to Ludwig's corridors which aims to strengthen Mario'supper body strength.

4 Vanilla Dome

Inside this glistening cavern, home to four levels, a Ghost House, Red Switch Palace, Vanilla Fortress, three secret locations, and a castle not owned by the lead singer of Motorhead, but by a Koopa named Lemmy. Opening with a descent into a beetle-infested cave, followed by a level that combines on land gameplay with frustrating underwater action. The Vanilla Ghost House is relatively challenging as you must avoid giant green bubbles floating throughout the Boo infested house.

Vanilla Dome three forces you onto rafts built out of skulls throughout the lava river while avoiding the large dinosaur-like creature living underneath. Making your way through the third castle can be challenging as you'll need to navigate through disappearing platforms while avoiding the magical Koopa. A tough battle with Lemmy includes avoiding the fireball while the Koopa pops up from underneath you.

3 Forest Of Illusion

With nine levels, four areas to navigate, with a Ghost House, Blue Switch Palace, Forest Fortress, Roy's Castle, and one secret area to explore. Packed with various enemy types to clear including Goombas falling out of the sky above you, or wigglers hulking up and turning red once you attack them.

This challenging area includes an underwater level that rarely excites Mario or Luigi paired with a castle that sees Mario having to navigate his way through Roy's living room with just the moving platform beneath keeping him from an everlasting ocean of lava.

2 Valley Of Bowser

The seventh and final world is home to four Valley of Bowser levels, a sunken Ghost House, the Valley Fortress Fortress which includes a separate battle with Four fire-breathing triceratopses named Reznor, Larry's Castle which includes a battle with Larry similar to the castle from Yoshi's Island, a Front and Back Door to Bowser's home and even a Sunken Ghost Ship.

One of the most irritating areas comes upon entering the front door. As you step inside, you'll have to choose between four doors all leading to a separate dangerous areas which lead to four more doors leading to the Princess Peach-kidnapping Bowser awaiting the mustached Italian.

1 Chocolate Island

A world that has cost players thousands of lives since the early nineties, Chocolate Island will have you travel back to Yoshi's Island just to collect a handful of lives before coming back here and losing them all over again. Whether it's Chargin' Chuck, vaulting over a field of Munchers rushing through a house overflowing with ghosts and floors that are looking to swallow you or being chased by massive sun glasses-wearing moles. A threat awaits the family of plumbers at every turn ending with a castle flooding with traps, fireballs named Lil' Sparky, and Wendy O. Koopa awaiting at the end.
